about

Life can be ugly, tragic, senseless, grossly unfair. In the end, it's the only game in town. This is a song about gratitude for this crazy, mixed up world. BTW--the great Maurice Tani played some badass funk guitar on an earlier demo of this song. Alas, the tempo was too fast, so I tossed that and started fresh. Ask me and I'll send you the other version for free. (Assuming you buy this one...) You may even like it better.

lyrics

HEAVEN NEVER CLOSES

You walked in with your thrift store shoes and no chance
and you lost your head to the retread with the implants
Woke up on a table
jukebox playing Layla
Lipstick on your collar
and your arms around a sailor
But don't
get down
so far
Look around
Remember where you are

Heaven never closes
set 'em up and knock 'em down
All the world's a bar
and every day's another round
We're dancing and we're singing
'cause there's no place else to be
They left us here with all this beer
so won't you come
come and dance with me

You caught a break when the repo man went AWOL
skipped right off the table like the 8-ball
barkeep with her sleepy eyes
is cracking jokes like ice
Tonight she hopes she's smart enough
to take her own advice
And don't
get down
so low
Somebody went and got us all
tickets to the show

Heaven never closes
Set em up and knock em down
All the world's a bar
and every day's another round
We're dancing and we're singing
'cause what else can you do
but take a shine to what you find
and I would like
to dance with you

Came all the way from Richmond with your trap kit
but they dressed you up with that monkey suit that don't fit
still you got your throne
and those Japanese Pearls
tonight that silver sparkle's flyin' all around the world
And the doomsday parade is gettin' nearer
you can see 'em comin' in your rearview mirror
Reapers in their hoodies tryin' to kill all the fun
but anybody still around is on the list, plus one

Heaven never closes
it's the only game in town
All the world's a bar
and every day's another round
We're dancing and we're singing
'cause there's no place else to be
so raise that chin and take it in
and come and dance, come and dance
come and dance with me
